"Welsh Ponies and Cobs have made their way into areas where once only horse breeds
dominated. More and more, Welsh are found to be very suitable dressage mounts for small adults that are not so eager to wrestle a 17-hand Warmblood. Welsh
Cobs and Cob crossbreds are often seen at combined training venues and are well suited for the job. They
are sound and easy keepers. Welsh continue to take the driving world by storm. Always a fashionable breed
to drive in the pleasure driving ring, many a Welsh is making its name at combined driving events throughout
the U.S. and internationally. Dr. Ruth Wilburn, President of the WPCSA, has always
believed that the Welsh would make their mark in a wide variety of disciplines and says that, "The
Welsh are the original sport ponies; we are breeding an animal that is an athlete
with a brain." She believes, as do many other devotees of the breed, that ponies are often discriminated
against because of their size, but bigger isn’t always better! It doesn’t take long to find
out that the Welsh that a child outgrows will quickly become the cross-country dynamo for the parents
to enjoy."
